1913. Mario Prada, a Milanese artisan, establishes his company in Milan, with a shop in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, selling high-class bags and accessories. In 1978 Mario’s niece Miuccia Prada Bianchi is virtually launched to the top of the company. Together with her husband and partner Patrizio Bertelli, in around twenty years she brought the company to fashion’s highest world peaks. In the early 1980’s the company launched the famous backpack in Pocono, nylon and silk effect and in 1989 it launched its first womenswear collection. The Prada-Bertelli couple marries their shared passion for contemporary art with the fashion world. In 1995 they set up the Prada foundation, presenting new and eclectic artists of our contemporary art. The search for new materials and innovative applications are at the basis of new creations that combine elegance and functionality, and act as launch pad for the new lines of Prada Sport and the young label Miu Miu. The years in the run up to “Style and fashion accessories that are able not to be out of fashion in one season” 2000 see the Prada group grow exponentially, incorporating other labels and entering the world scene with branded stores in Mosco, Tokyo and New York.
