This brand was funded by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Their debut was in 1985 at “Milano Confezioni”, where they showed under the New Talent banner, and the following year they had their first catwalk show and collection. They came straight to the attention of the public with their new interpretation of the female form: a woman who is seductive but at the same time connected with tradition and popular culture, and they turned this into a type of Mediterranean glamour that, over time, has conquered the international scene. Lace bras worn over T-shirts, Mini-girdles over white shirts, a black bustier dress laced over the hips, a black sexy and tight suit that enhances curves that are no longer sacrificed but celebrate by their creations: all these became cult items. In 1988 the duo signed an agreement for the production of the pret-a-porter in Domenico Dolce's family company in Legnano. In 1994 they launched a new line dedicated to young people, D & G. Meanwhile their collections garnered the attention of international stars, such as Madonna, who asked them to design the costumes for her 1993 Girlie Show. In 1990 they showed their first menswear collection and opened their first New York showroom. From 2000 onwards, important collaborations follows with the world of cinema, music (in 2002 they created all stage costumes for Kylie Minogue’s European Tour), sport (in 2006 they designed the kit of the Italian football team for the Germany World Cup, and dress David Beckham, new icon of men’s fashion).
